In Ayurveda, Gulab Jal is called Shatapatri Arka or Gulab Arka. Shatapatri means “100 petals” – referring to the desi Indian rose Rosa centifolia / Rosa damascena. It’s prepared by Arka Kalpana – distillation method – and is considered Saumya, Sheeta, Varnya, and Tridoshahara when pure. Ayurvedic Description & Properties:

Source: Steam-distilled water from fresh petals of desi gulab – not hybrid English roses. Pankhuri should be plucked in brahma muhurta for best prabhava.

Ayurvedic Properties:

- Prabhava: Hridya, Medhya, Varnya, Dahaprashamana

- Karma: Tridoshahar – Balances all 3 doshas, especially Pitta. Chakshushya, Kandughna, Raktaprasadak

Preparation – Arka Vidhi as per Ayurveda:

This is the traditional Siddha method, not just soaking petals.

Step 1: _Dravya Sangrahan_ – Collect 1 kg fresh desi gulab petals early morning. Wash in clean water.

Step 2: _Arka Yantra Setup_ – Use Deg-Bhapka or modern stainless steel distiller. Add petals + 8 liters water to deg.

Step 3: _Arka Nirmaan_ – Heat on mandagni. Steam passes through bhapka and condenses. Collect first 1/3rd as Uttam Arka – approx 2.5 liters. This has highest veerya.

Step 4: _Shodhana_ – Filter through muslin. Store in glass bottles. No preservatives needed if samyak siddha.

Shelf life: 6 months – 1 year if pure & stored well. Purana gulab jal loses sugandh but veerya remains.
